All the songs are very memorable. Who out there does not rep themselves humming or even singing along with the likes of “Chim-Chim-Cheree” or “Spoonful of Sugar”?
Julie Andrews will always be remembered for her role as Mary Poppins, and Dick Van Dyke absolutely shines as Bert the Chimney Sweep. Van Dyke also plays the senior officer of the bank – and has his very best scene where he realizes that the punchline – “A wooden leg named Smith” – is droll. Andrews won an Academy Award for Mary Poppins, and the movie also won Best Visual Effects, and Best Music Gather, as well as Best Song (”Chim Chim Cher-ee”) .

The scene where “I treasure to laugh” is particularly poignant. Ed Wynn died not long after the release of Mary Poppins, and shows some of his best comedy style in this scene. Very funny.
The tale is salubrious and has a fabulous factual without being too “preachy”. It was a very first-rate adaptation from the fresh original, and it’s a shame Disney never did any of P L Traver’s hold sequels to Mary Poppins.
The engaging bits are a exiguous flat by today’s standards, but they add a amazing whimsey to a stellar production. Highly recommended to any family with children. A must-buy for Disney fans.
This is the far better, two-disc, 40th anniversary edition that not only restores everything to digital quality, but adds a second disc of deleted scenes (and a song!), commentary, and many other frosty current features. Watch for the unique 40th anniversary DVD edition – it’s worth waiting for!

“Mary Poppins” is one of that recall group of films that can truly be called ‘Classic’, a project conceived in fancy and filled with so great child-like wonder that it will never grow conventional or ‘out-of-date’. Certainly the crowning achievement of Walt Disney’s distinguished career, the “Mary Poppins” 40th Anniversary Special Edition is simply lovely!
Based on P.L. Travers’ tales of a magical nanny who arrives to bring families closer, the rights to the stories had been pursued by Disney since 1938, but Travers had seen what studios had done to other authors’ works, and withheld her approval unless she could enjoy some creative control. Years of negotiations only whetted Disney’s desire to create a definitive, truly ’special’ film, and by 1960, despite the box office failure of another fantasy-themed ‘pet’ project, “Darby O’Gill and the Petite People”, he was more confident than ever in the story’s potential, bringing together a grand array of talent, including songwriting brothers Richard and Robert Sherman, production head Bill Walsh, and the shining artist Peter Ellenshaw to ‘visualize’ 1910 London through his matte paintings.
With Travers’ grudging approval, casting began. While American stage and TV star Dick Van Dyke was an curious choice to play a Cockney chimneysweep, he was a gifted mime and physical comedian, and had such a wholesome exuberance that Disney knew British audiences would forgive his shaky accent. Current British actors Glynis Johns and David Tomlinson would play the preoccupied parents, with Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber (from “The Three Lives of Thomasina”) as the neglected children. Traditional stars Ed Wynn, Elsa Lanchester, Reginald Owen, Arthur Treacher, and Jane Darwell (as the Bird Woman, in her last mask appearance), headed the strong supporting cast.
But it was the casting of Julie Andrews, in her first film, as Mary Poppins, that truly ‘made’ the film! Passed over by Jack Warner for the movie version of her stage hit, “My Glorious Lady” (he opted for Audrey Hepburn), Disney caught her performance in “Camelot” on Broadway, knew, instantly, that she was the good ‘Mary’, and approached her for the role. “But I’m pregnant,” she told him. “No predicament,” he replied. “I’ll wait!”
And thus a Classic was born!
A multiple 1964 Oscar winner (including ‘Best Actress’ for Andrews, who got to section the stage with her “Lady” costar, Rex Harrison, who won ‘Best Actor’), the film was a major hit, worldwide, and speedily achieved the legendary dwelling it holds today.
For it’s 40th Anniversary, Disney’s heirs have attach together a spectacular package; along with the digitally-remastered film (it looks and sounds Pleasurable!), a second disc of additional features includes a joyous reunion of stars Andrews and Van Dyke (who both seem ageless!) ; reminiscences of Robert Sherman, who sings a cute ditty crop from the final film; a interesting 50-minute “behind-the-scenes” documentary about the production; featurettes on how the FX were achieved in several key scenes; and noteworthy, Distinguished more! As the owner of several “Special Edition” Disney DVDs, I can honestly say, THIS is the BEST, yet!
With the holidays speedy approaching, I can’t reflect of a finer gift to give, or to collect!

Buyer beware on this video, the spoken audio track does not always match up well with the video. In fact, some of the voices archaic do not ever seem to be from the actor in the movie. Parts of the movie feel a poorly dubbed Godzilla movie. The narrate quality of the movie is exquisite to estimable (but could be a lot better) . As an Audie Murphy fan, I could not net this movie anywhere else so I had to secure it.
This film was canned in Europe (Spain) and hauntingly similar to the style dwelling by Sergio Leone in his Eastwood “Man with No Name” trilogy. The supporting actors are mostly Spanish except for the familiar figure of veil heavy Broderick Crawford. There is a blending of the Hollywood Westerns and the Italian Spaghettis in this one. The dubbing is so certain (typical of spaghetties) but the storyline is easy to follow (typical of Hollywood westerns) . Murphy’s boyish looking demeanor is unruffled here but his age shows in this one. The protagoinists aloof dress decently and “cleanly” (typical of Hollywood) . The only reference to the slovenly atmosphere, dirt and perspiration stink (in Spaghetties) are the presence of flies stealing the scenes in some shots. The gunfire (whistling type of blast) and the Morricone type of music (done to nauseating extremes) definitley makes this a Spaghetti western with its great qualities. The distracting and dizzying closeup-shots of Italian spaghettis thankfully were not incorporated into this movie. If you have been accustomed to the Hollywood B westerns by Audie Murphy at Universal, this movie is peaceful of similar mode, except that it has the spaghetti taste in it. This is a gracious movie for western fanatics who devour the genre.

This movie is a perfect companion to Tony Curtis’ other auto car bustle movie, The Enormous Bustle. The package shows the aspect ratio as 1.78 widescreen, which would hold the whole veil of a HDTV. The dependable ratio shows as it should be having been filmed in Panavision as 2.35:1.

It is instructive to compare these performances to the recently released Beethoven Piano Concertos played by Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Bernard Haitink led London Philharmonic, filmed in 1974. The Ashkenazy Beethoven performances are ancient, with a larger orchestra accompanying the piano, and both unleashing a tubby arsenal of tricks: extensive vibrato, a profligate spend of the piano pedals, slower tempos and gigantic melodic lines, all of these a 19th Century performance paradigm. The lofty, denser and Romantic Beethoven we hear on those DVDs are no longer considered acceptable for unique performances. Their style was replaced by the lighter, swifter, streamlined Beethoven that we hear in these performances, recorded in September 1989 for the Bernstein led Concertos 3-5 and December 1991 for the Zimerman conducted Concertos 1 and 2. Here we catch smaller orchestral forces, buoyant textures, swifter tempos and beautifully glorious playing from Zimerman.

The Wiener Philharmoniker have a current sound that is especially effective when playing early and middle period Beethoven. Classical era grace, left over from the days of Haydn and Mozart, is a Vienna Philharmonic speciality. Here it produces aesthetic, shapely Beethoven. Bernstein elicits this elegance from the orchestra while exhibiting uncharacteristic restraint, and in the process, he induces transparent instrumental textures that yield lyrical and evocative performances rather than dense and hefty ones. This lithe and agile Beethoven is very surprising, given Bernstein’s uber-Romantisch reputation: it certainly surprised me. The other enormous surprise is how similar Zimerman’s conducted performances are to Bernstein’s. Discontinuance your eyes and they are hard to negate apart.
All of these performances were filmed soon after Roger Norrington had completed his breakthrough period instrument performances of the Symphonies and Piano Concertos by the extinguish of 1988. Given their revelatory nature and widespread approbation, some influence was inevitable. Fifteen years ago these performances were released briefly on laserdisc, as was the frustrating habit of Polygram Classics. Now they reappear on DVD in an admirable Deutsche Grammophon edition.
In September of 1989 Bernstein conducted the THIRD, FOURTH and FIFTH (EMPEROR) in concert in Vienna. After his death, Zimerman and the Vienna Philharmonic decided to complete the place by recording the first two by themselves. Zimerman owns the first two, Bernstein owns the last three, so the station is a bit disjointed as sets go, but on video it is entertaining to scrutinize the reverence Zimerman has for the titanic conductor from the get-go, and how his fill spirit of interpretation takes over once he gets artistic control of the early concertos. In addition to the differences of performance, there also are differences of venue–the first two are not in concert like the last three–and differences in recorded sound. One would contemplate that the more controlled environment of the first two would yield a better sound, but not so, and there are even differences between the two of them, the FIRST being a slight undermiked, while the SECOND is exquisite.
DG, Zimerman and the VPO have given Bernstein one of the finest memorials that he could ever have wanted, his final EMPEROR, and the whole plot finished in his honor.

Although I’m not a enormous fan of the character Pluto and would not be enthusiastic in watching several Pluto cartoons in a row, many of his cartoons are fun and laughable. Most of the shorts were well-animated with provocative stories. Lend A Paw (#7, 1941) won an Oscar for Best Cartoon.
I am disappointed that all the 48 cartoons are not in this area and I will have to wait a year or two for the remaining Pluto cartoons, since several of my accepted Pluto cartoons are in the last cartoons.
This 2-disc DVD plot is a must have! Herein are contained 29 classic shorts spanning from 1930 to 1947, in the first of what will likely be a 2 volume collection. Included are some of Pluto’s, and Disney’s best cartoons, from the Oscar winning remake “Lend a Paw,” to the first appearance of Chip `N’ Dale in “Private Pluto.” Here is a rundown of what you obtain in this extraordinary DVD situation!
Disc 1:
The Chain Gang (1930) : In this dusky and white Mickey Mouse short, Mickey is a prisoner in a chain gang who, after musical antics result in a riot, makes a wreck for it! Two bloodhounds, officially considered the first appearance of Pluto in a double role, are hot on his wander.
On Ice (1935) : In this early, color Mickey Mouse cartoon, the whole gang is enjoying a day on the ice, but Donald Duck’s prank playing nature puts Pluto in the spotlight.
Pluto’s Quin-Puplets (1937) : In this familiar classic, the first “official” Pluto short, we meet Pluto’s family, as his mate, Fifi, leaves him to discover over their 5 puppies while she goes after some sausages. The outcome of which is a drunken Pluto and a inspiring paint catastrophe, resulting in some bizarre looking pups. Mountainous short!
Beach Picnic (1939) : Donald Duck, the official star of this short, sets out to have a picnic on the beach with Pluto in tow, but the day is unfavorable by a familiar flypaper routine and those pesky ants! The Duck and the dog are Immense together!
Bone Pains (1940) : Butch and Pluto battle it out over a bone here, the highlight of which is that eminent funhouse mirror routine that saves the day! Gigantic moments with Pluto in the hall of mirrors!
Pluto’s Playmate (1941) : While Pluto is playing with a ball on the beach, a seal takes interest and becomes obvious to compose friends, despite the dog’s resistance. Classic type of Pluto epic, to be repeated again and again in future shorts.
Canine Caddy (1941) : Mickey heads out for a game of golf, but Pluto and a gopher louse things up!
Lend a Paw (1941) : This Oscar winning short about kindness to animals is pure Disney magic! Surprisingly, it’s a remake of a dismal and white Mickey short! Gargantuan legend about Pluto regretfully rescuing a drowning kitten that starts to lift his dwelling in Mickey’s home. Pluto’s devil and angel produce their most memorable appearance in this one!
Pluto, Junior (1942) : Pluto’s pup, Pluto Junior, can’t seem to conclude out of worry, even in his occupy backyard!
The Army Mascot (1942) : Pluto notices how well fed the local Army mascots are and decides to try to replace one of them. He foolishly chooses a grouchy goat!
The Sleepwalker (1942) : Pluto meets his second grand cartoon cherish, Dina the Dachshund, in this classic short. However, he’s more keen in hanging onto his bone than sparking romance. Too awful his sleepwalking is working against him.
T-Bone For Two (1942) : Pluto and Butch the bulldog clash again, in another story battle over a bone.
Pluto At the Zoo (1942) : This proper short is fat of animal antics, as Pluto attempts to select a bone from a lion’s dish at the zoo. Worship the gorilla scene!
Disc 2:
Pluto and the Armadillo (1943) : On a poke to Brazil, Pluto’s ball gets mixed up with a proper Armadillo in a brief end off between flights! Very cute short that features Mickey, too!
Private Pluto (1943) : Pluto is given orders to guard a cannon from suspected saboteurs. To our delight, those saboteurs are Chip `N’ Dale in their first ever appearance! They’re living in the gun and using it to crack and store their nut supply!
Springtime For Pluto (1944) : This rarely seen, very gleaming Pluto short is a pure delight! It’s rarities like this that are the gold nuggets of the Disney Treasures series! The Pan-like Spirit of Spring awakes Pluto to a luminous unusual day, but his enjoyment is eventually smothered by the down-sides of nature.
First Aiders (1944) : Hooray, Pluto and Figaro! This short is one of those big Disney team-ups that features a star from Disney’s “Pinocchio,” Figaro the cat! In this customary fave of mine (I care for Pluto and Figaro shorts), the boys battle it out while Minnie attempts to practice her first-aid skills on them.
Dog See (1945) : This is another fave of mine! Pluto is a Navy dog, and is given orders to support intruders off the ship. A pesky rat causes difficulty for him though, setting his sights on the ship’s galley!
Canine Casanova (1945) : Pluto is madly in worship with Dina, but can’t salvage her to return the sentiment, until he rescues her from the local dog pound!
The Fable of Coyote Rock (1945) : Another former fave! Pluto is a sheepdog that has to fend off the legendary Twisted Tail, the coyote!
Canine Patrol (1945) : In this short, Pluto works for the U.S. Sail Guard and takes his job a cramped too seriously, doing his best to sustain a cute miniature turtle off the beach!
Pluto’s Kid Brother (1946) : K.B. can’t pause out of danger, and he badly needs gargantuan bro Pluto’s encourage when Butch tricks him into robbing a butcher shop!
In Dutch (1946) : Pluto is the local milk delivery dog in a petite Dutch village. He and Dina bag in disaster one day, when Pluto’s wooing results in a fake dike terror sounding off. But, when the dike actually does spring a leak, it’s Pluto and Dina who set the day!
Squatter’s Rights (1946) : Chip `N’ Dale are relieve to torment Pluto again, when Mickey and Pluto rep them living in the stove of a cabin they are vacationing in!
The Purloined Pup (1946) : A wealthy puppy has been dognapped! It’s up to police dog Pluto to locate the awful pup in the hideout of the number one suspect, Butch the bulldog!
Pluto’s Housewarming (1947) : When Pluto is engrossing into a luxurious unusual doghouse, he discovers an unwanted houseguest in the construct of that cute slight turtle. He has bigger things to pain about, though, when Butch decides to recede in too!
From the Vault: Pantry Pirate (1940), separated due to ethnic stereotype content: Pluto does his best to sneak food from the kitchen without the housekeeper suspecting.

This is a incredible collection of classic Disney cartoons, valuable for the Disney or Pluto fanatic! Extras include introductions from Leonard Maltin, Pluto 101 (an in-depth witness into drawing and animating Pluto), The Life and Times of Pluto (a featurette about the pup himself), Pluto’s Report Book (a share of the Disneyland TV Prove episode “A Myth of Dogs,” that focuses on the career of Pluto), Pluto’s Pal Fergy (a tribute to Norm Ferguson, the animator credited with developing Pluto), amazing photo galleries (including Sunday comics, posters, backgrounds, etc…), a DVD booklet, a certificate of authenticity, and a pleasing collectible poster art card. To create a scientific peer of a creature that never existed, then situation it in a format that makes it seem credible, should be considered a sci-fi/fantasy flick, upright? Nope, the splendid folks over at Animal Planet took the time to do an entire biological and environmental make-up for dragons, and then presented it in a format similar to all of those dinosaur documentaries such as “Walking With Dinosaurs.”

The documentary, scattered with recreations of T-Rex and dragon fights, mating rituals, hunting, and other day-to-day happenings in a dragon’s life, follows the work of a cramped British scientific team who research a creature found in Romania. There mission is to show or disprove a hoax.
The team, headed by a very alive to rookie, begins to clarify how dragons might have been able to sail, survive the K/T incident, adapt to colder climates and, most importantly, breathe fire. They define how this precious fire gives them an edge on all of the other animals that inhabited their world until man comes along.

Though some of the science is sketchy and hard to swallow, you have to let your mind go and “pretend” that dragons actually could have roamed the earth. The acting in the flick is graceful safe, though the lead scientist seemed to be forcing his emotions. The special effects are amazing for a documentary. They are lawful up there with “Walking With Dinosaurs” and easily outperform any flicks achieve on by the SciFi channel.
Overall, an luscious flick that gives hope to those who have always wondered if dragons really existed. Perhaps Animal Planet will do more exhibit like this explaining the science of creatures like Bigfoot, Chupacabra, griffins, etc.
Highly recommended for the whole family. There is impartial a runt bit of violence, and it is all handled very well.
There is the legend of how a myth became a true living animal. Or how it might be if there were such a thing as dragons and a body of one was found. A mixture of documentary and fantasy, of computer animation and live action, of natural science and wild imagination. Slightly different from the TV version I saw, it seems to be better place together into an over-all legend (and a tad longer) . Narrated by Ian Holm, it’s unprejudiced pure fun.

The man from Snowy River is befriend! After a few years trying to catch money to marry Jessica Harrison (Sigrid Thornton), Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson) returns to Snowy River. But he finds that a lot of things have changed. The succesful ranchers and bankers want to bewitch up all of the land of the graceful Australian mountains where he was brought up. He also finds that Jessica’s father, Harrison (Brian Dennehy) wants her to marry Alistair Patton (Nicholas Eadie), son of landowner Patton Sr. (Rhys McConnochie) . With a sort of mute feud between the landowners and the mountain men going on, Jim and Jessica must settle if they’re esteem is worth firing up the feud even worse.
As most of the cases, I pick the first movie to “Return to Snowy River” though I believe they both deserve 5 stars. One of the reasons is I delight in the first one more is that Kirk Douglas played Harrison in the first movie. Yes, Brian Dennehy was valid in that role, I collected like Kirk Douglas.
All apt, to the pleasing parts of the movie. Exquisite and dazzling scenery of the Australian mountains! Reliable acting by all actors and actresses, the suspense, action, and adventure will maintain you on the edge of your seats! And Tom Burlinson distinct know how to drag when he performs some ravishing chilly stunts while riding horses. Especially the earlier fragment of the movie where he proves that he can certainly journey better than Nicholas Eadie who plays the portion of the jealous awful guy for Jessica’s affection.

I recommend this movie along with the first movie, “The Man from Snowy River”. These movies are classics and one of the family movies I leer at home. Can’t be missed!
Return to Snowy River is a sequel that definitely compliments the first movie considering a lot of movie sequels don’t really form the grade. Also luminous that Disney was at the helm of this production, with their gracious track report, it was a gorgeous certain thing it was going to be huge.
Tom Burlinson (as Jim Craig) and Sigrid Thornton (as Jessica Harrison), once again note grand chemistry in their interactions that makes for a very handsome, although turbulent romantic adventure. Amidst the clashing of landowners and Jessica’s father (played by Brian Dennehy) wanting to distance her from Jim Craig permanently, the couple leer the power of fancy and surmount the odds to glean happiness.
Filmed in Australia’s Victorian Alps, the cinematography is visually graceful and breathtaking. The horsemanship and stunt work is very bewitching also and coupled with substantial acting, this movie is a highly rewarding experience for everyone of all ages.

We first saw “A Itsy-bitsy Princess” on HBO and knew moral away that it’s a “must add” DVD to our collection, even better…a DVD with two of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classics. Any adult can characterize to the two movies here and the stories are beautifully told on film adapted from the books. There are other versions which we haven’t watch and am fair determined they’re all as splendid. My girlfriend became very emotional [about Sarah Crewe] and loved it (she’s a kid at heart) I’m cheerful she did, because essentially, I wanted this movie for her because she is my miniature princess.

The double-featured disc is a mountainous value, but a widescreen format would be a honorable option, there isn’t one despite the description from the case stated that there is both full-screen & widescreen versions: this is attractive misleading because I possess the two formats were meant for the ‘Theatrical Trailers’ and NOT for the movie if you read carefully along the print. Also, printed inside on the center hub of the disc, it states that both versions are ‘Full Screen’, by then this is too gradual to sort out the confusion if you are very particular about having the widescreen format…so I’ll minus one star for this making a total 4 out of 5.
Two of my all-time well-liked movies on one DVD, with special features and trailers to boot – could it glean any better? I argue, it cannot!

When we last left off in the Season 3 finale, JD broke Elliot’s heart, Carla and Turk were getting married, and Dr. Cox and Jordan were learning how to raise a child together. As season 4 opens, JD and Elliot are learning to work with one another after the awful breakup while competing for the Chief Resident plot, Turk and Carla are struggling with newlywed life while Turk is faced with some health issues, and JD and Turk’s relationship sees some difficulties. The best episodes in Season 4 are the most emotionally unbiased ones, like the Elliot POV episode Her Yarn, My Cake, and the enormous My Best Moments. The season ending My Changing Ways is somewhat subdued, but lays the groundwork for some changes in Season 5.

First of all, I rented this impartial because I didn’t ogle anything else that looked challenging and I was in a race. This had some dependable anxiety to the point of being downright scary. It didn’t distress to have terrific performances by the entire cast and that goes suitable down to the attendees of the neighborhood ogle meeting. The small feeble lady who wanted desserts was enormous in her role. This film is not for everyone, but if you like some gore and some fear without any explicit sex, this might be for you. I was kind of disapointed at one thing though. I idea the woman at Zeecor would have more of a role in the film. She was pleasant in her section, but I idea for certain she was going to seduce someone. There’s not a lot of action in this film or any over the top cheap scares, honest a solid distress of building to a comely and shocking climax.
